87 nissan hardbody with z24 motor timing chain issues

hello all just picked up an 87 Nissan with a z24, timing chain was in the process of being replaced when i got it previous owner couldn't figure it out and i thought i'd be able to as I've done them in the past, but when i line everything up and rotate the motor by hand the marks don't line up after making a complete revolution. i lined up the marks on the chain with the marks on the cam and crank gear while the engine is at top dead center then tighten the chain with the guide on the passenger side of the motor and install the tensioner and spin the engine and the marks don't line up. this is a brand new timing chain set so no parts are worn any help would be greatly appreciated

bump
so i just tried it again and when i line everything up and turn it by hand the timing marks end up lining up past the timing marks by one tooth on both the cam and crank marks. has no one out there had this problem?? really?

just ran into this problem with a 92 z24 did you ever find a fix?
