I want the paint to turn out like this, I am not wanting to fiberglass it just want the finish paint to turn out like the outside of the car I guess. I had been working on a piece for my center console forever now and wet sanded the *** out of it and then clear coated it, tried to wet sand that and took all the sine away and so i cleared it again, still didnt come out as good. The clear has been drying for over a week now but if you touch it hard enough it will leave finger prints and my gf put herr damn foot on it and *** it up good

what kind of clear did you use? if you used spray can then its probably old. if you used it from a spray gun then you probably didnt use any or enough hardner. as for the dash, paint it and clear it, i think the clear will make it shiny enough. when you wet sand it, try using a finer sandpaper. like 800 grit or 1000 grit. try that and let me know how it comes out

Well I used clear in a spray can and your right, it might be a little old. How I did it was at first I just painted everything and it turned out alright and used some dollar store red gloss. I know kyrlon is better but I tried it and wasnt dark enough but the dollar store stuff worked great. Left it like that, had a dull like look and was rough. I looked around and people was talking about wet sand so I tired to just wet sand the peice that I did and came out good and really smoothed (used 2000 grit) but still had specs of gloss where the paint was so uneven so I repainted and sanded again still the same thing so repeated but this time I used 400 grit and then the 2000, came out real smooth and just had a couple of places but I was getting tired of it and everytime I sanded had the problem where the corners and edges took all the paint, used a whole can on this by the way. Well I cleared the hell out of it, looked good, not as smooth and had some small places where dust maybe got in it but left for like a week and never harded. I tried sanding the clear with 2000 grit but dulled it really bad like it did when i wet sanded the gloss so clear the spot and left it. when I was all done I decided to use some cheap clear coat compound someone gave me, bad idea, the rag put places in it and I tried to wax it was I know was stupid but nothing.

well try some 800 grit wet/dry and sand the clear coat off, get some clear coat that is new, (i reccomend using clear in a spray gun) but if you are good at spray painting, then go for it. put like 3 coats of clear on it. then wet sand it, the buff it with a buffer or polishing rag of some kind. i used cutting cream a while back to buff my clearcoat, but it was like 32.99 a bottle. (but im not saying to use that) and that was a couple years ago... so try that. as for the dirt spots, if you cant pick them out, when you sand your clear off then sand them out. and corners are usually hard to get alot of paint on, so just be careful not to sand too far on the corners. i made that mistake with a model i painted
