Does anyone know how to remove the plastic safely, and how to get the adhesive off?

i used fishing string to get the molding off, and rubbing alcohol to get the adhesive off. it takes some time, so be patient. i had a sonoma and i tried a flat screwdriver on the tailgate but dont use a screwdriver. it will mess up your paint.

I found that the string sold in the cooking aisle for tying roasts, etc., works best, it's multi-strand, and MUCH stronger, while still being able to flatten enough to go under the trim.

Make a garrote using two sticks, and then use this to "saw" under the trim.

To remove the adhesive, get a microfiber

cloth, and watch all that tape goo magically come right off using only tap water.

Be careful trying to rub the adhesive tape off using your fingers- I got a nasty blister doing this...work smart, not hard...

You will undoubtedly find some blackened areas under the trim where dirt has been embedded over time...
With the microfiber cloth and some No. 7 Polishing compound, rub out the lower body sides. The discoloration will come RIGHT off this way, and leave the areas under the trims nicely blended to the rest of the paint.

Only in VERY strong light, can you pick out that the stock paint's a bit lighter on my truck than it started in 2006.
