figured i would start a build thread for my 73 hilux.

found it on craigslist for $240. this is where she sat for a looong time.

brought it home and threw on some matching rims.

had the seat redone since it was in "less than desirable shape"

before:

after:

then i started ordering the air ride components.

next i tore the truck down. pretty ugly stuff underneath.

and since i hate cleaning up rusty frame i decided to back half it. got $50 into it so far.

hopefully i'm gunna get the back half welded on soon.

subscribing to this.

looks good so far.

new to this so i will ask a question.

is it hard to make a whole new frame? looks like simple angles cut and welded. i have a 91 s10 i wanna bag and was thinking of doing a whole new frame.

ummm, i would say it's about as difficult as notching a frame. but there are a ton more measurments that have to be figured.

i'm only building a full frame because the factory frame/suspension just isn't gunna work. with a new frame i'm getting a stock floor body drop to flat rocker, more room for a 1uz-fe lexus v-8, and modernize the suspension all at the same time.

the s-10 suspension is pretty much perfect for airbags, so i'd recommend a 3/4 frame (firewall back).

and the "hardest" angle of a full frame is where the frame narrows in for the front suspension. but all you have to do is figure the angles from the top view and side view and put them together.

and if you have a big frame table it's even easier. i don't so i built the whole frame on jackstands. it can be a pain in the butt

hahaha yea. i wanna have a clean frame to start with thats why i asked and fully enclosed tube frame.Plus i can build it all up off that then when its ready i just put my bed and cab on the frame.

lol, actually a number of things.

1. my neighbor finally took his mustang out of my garage (i installed a roll cage in it)

2. my wife bought me 40' of tubing for my birthday!!

3. Ian (krazykenny5150) got a 70 hilux, and after throwing ideas back and forth he got me all fired up to get it going.
