i think they place them in the thermostat housing on all cars and trucks aka water out let of engine follow radiator tube top one. one end is radiator the other is the water out let of the engine look in that genral area for a 1or2 wire i think some time more. it's about 1-1/2 inch long and screwed into the thermostat housing so to contact the coolant. here what auto zone site says below . if i had aldata at home i would get you some pic's.
Temperature Switch On your 1986 Mazda Truck B2000 (2.0L 2BL SOHC), the Temperature Switch is located: Under hood, center, front engine area, mounted in top of water outlet

Mazda B2000 and B2200 Coolant Diagram
The temperature sensor for the gauge is usually located where number 4 is just below the thermostat, sometimes you get some oddball where it is located somewhere else like under the intake manifold. The sensor stuck in the bottom of the radiator is a temperatures switch for the PTC heater. There should be a 3rd temperature sensor in the side of the intake manifold facing the battery with a green connector body on it. That is the coolant temperature sensor for the computer.
