I recently bought a 1979 Toyota pickup. I plan on restoring it and bagging it at the same time. It has the torsion bar front suspension, which is no good for bags. So I need to change the front system. I figure there are a few ways to do this. I just wanted to get some ideas from experienced people out there who have done it or have read about it or whatever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The 79 ,Nice pick! As far as torsion bars go its as easy as throwing away the trash. Just get rid of them all together, then bag it. If you need pics of torsion bar removal let me know.
Is it driven you mad finding parts yet? I will ask a friend thats doing his and see what needs reworking. What size tires and how low you wanna go?
Oh yea if you ever ditch that grill and stuff let me know
Sometimes being called the lowest form of Customs aint all that bad!!

I knew I'd have to throw the torsion bars out, but I'm not sure what needs to be modified to put the bags in. I would love the pics for torsion bar removal as well as the info from your friend.
As for my plans, I'm going old school hot rod style so I'm keeping the factory wheels. I want to lay the frame evenly front to back.
I got lucky and found 2 parts trucks that were rough but complete. So parts haven't been a problem yet.

The torsions are easy to get out. Just a few bolts at the control arm and the trans crossmember. Or you can do it my way and torch everything out all at once. Takes like 10 minutes. Just take your time cutting the torsions themselves, they are very tough and have to be *** hot to burn through. Lol.
To lay flat you're going to have to Z the frame or section the front crossmember. Theres a good tech article on sectioning in MT.
Also I would suggest swapping to drop spindles from a newer truck, otherwise you will have a ton of camber and no room for a bag up front. You will need the drop spindles, rotors, calipers, brake lines, and hubs. You can flip your lower ball joint so that it faces up, and the spindle will bolt in. Ball joint taper is the same. But you will have to swap to a larger wheel, or clearance the control arm to fit the 14s. But you could go to a 15 or 16 and be just fine.
And your front brackets should look something like this.
"That would be pretty cool... if it was like a foot lower."
"I'm gonna punch you in the butt!"
