oh yeah... i forgot to mention... the best way to get more power outta your engine is by taking it out and trading it in for a 350 lol

what im thinking about doing is throwing a turbo on mine. now granted you would have to do some fabricating but if ur gonna drive it on the street a small to medium sized one at 8 to 12 psi would be perfect. that will give you a lot more torque in the mid rpm range.

if your 2.2 is the same as the 2.2 that was in the dodge rampage, you might be able to get a performance cam and lifters for it. the 2.2 is a pretty easy engine to work on, but they tend to get a bit flakey after you tear them apart and rebuild them....be prepaired to monkey with the timing for a couple of weeks.
I work to support my Jeep.....Nope, it's not lowered

first of all. everyone thats talking about making a 2.2 liter be a performance engine, dream on. that engine cant handle anything more than just bolt ons. if ur ganna turbo the engine be prepared to rebuild it after about 300 miles, especially with 8 to 12 pounds of boost. the first thing thats ganna happen is your ganna throw a rod bearing, and i'll bet any money on that. so my advice is to not waster your money on that engine. get a car that has a good engine in it in the first place. the 2.2 is just a standard motor, its made for driving and thats it. putting a bunch of stress on everything is just ganna destroy it! but if ur not the smart people and you dont listen to me at least rebuild the piss out of that motor. im talkin high performance parts like new crank, bearings, cam, rods, pistons, rings, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, valvesprings, ect.. if ur ganna waste your money on it anyways u might as well do it right the first time!

jwall makes some good points. If you turbo this engine you want to start from scratch. Though I have not investigated it yet, I believe there are turbo ready blocks made for Grand Ams & Cavaliers built to hold 350-400 horses that we MAY be able to use that can be ordered from select distributors. As long as the truck parts will bolt to that block as well is the rear wheel drive transmission...
